If the Summit Area Is Closed

Etna's alert level can rise and shut the upper zone at short notice, and the listing itself says the tour is subject to weather conditions. On a closed day the upgrade may not run and even free walking can be restricted. If the summit area is closed on the day, the 1,900 m base itinerary usually still operates, so the sensible move is to keep the booking for the craters at the base and take a full refund on the upgrade if you bought it.
